Biography
Matt McInnes is a visual artist based in Dundas Ontario. His artistic process is informed by over 14 years as an arts educator and printmaker. His work focuses on social histories and topographies of urban change. Abandoned Variety Store 4 continues an ongoing documentation of buildings and landscapes in Hamilton Ontario. This recent work includes buildings designated for demolition for Hamilton’s anticipated Light Rail Transit System as well as landscapes from the abandoned Jamesville social housing complex at 405 James Street North. These images originated as sketches and have been translated for screen printing and drypoint processes. They are included in this exhibition largely as hand printed pieces, with a selection of drawings included to reveal steps in the process.
